This matched pair of saddles was custom-made
for Carl and Elsie Darrah by Russell Moss saddle ready in Kansas City Missouri.
Russell Moss was inducted into the Kansas cowboy Hall of Fame in 2009.
He died at the age of 96 and 2007. The the saddles were both made in the
1970s and were custom-made for my husband Carl and me with our names tooled
on the fenders. Carl Darrah was a well-known horseman who rode in
parades with the Wyandotte County Sheriff Posse in Kansas City Kansas and
I rode with the famous Kansas City Cowgirls in Kansas City Missouri.
We also rode as a matched pair in all of the parades that our clubs didn't
ride in. The metal trim on the saddles is stainless steel which gleams
like silver when it is polished but it doesn't tarnish like silver does.
Both saddles have a 15.5 or 16 inch seat
and are on modified quarter horse trees which fit every horse that I've
ever put them on. The saddles were used primarily for parades and
have always been In a climate controlled room. All the straps and
rigging are excellent. They both have real sheepskin linings in perfect
condition. They don't need any repairs other than little cleanup
wiping the dust off and polishing the stainless steel. There are
black and white blankets to go with the saddles us. They have matching
bridles, breast collars and tapaderos.
