Ted Flowers saddle...#2 Murphy
The original owner bought the saddle in
the 1950s. He died two years ago at age 81. He was the owner
of a large stable of Arabian horses and was very active in the Augusta
horse scene, participating in parades during the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
The saddle had been stored in a shed for, at least, the past 25 years.
No one had been in the shed for a very long time and his daughter only
recently (within the past six months) started opening areas of the stable
that had been unused. All the saddles and tack found in the shed
were very dirty and almost unrecognizable. The silver on the parade
saddle looked bronze and the tooling was so filled with dust/dirt the leather
looked smooth. The daughter put everything in the yard and pretty
much told those who us who were boarding horses at the stable to make her
an offer on whatever we wanted. I bought two saddles: the one
that I now know is a Ted Flowers and one made by Western Saddlery.
We have spent a lot of time clearning, oiling, and polishing. We
had to replace the strings. Both are now looking great. My
granddaughter in now using the Western Saddlery saddle. That's the
story.
